Harrower Village is a cluster of three existing 2-story masonry buildings. The buildings were originally constructed between 1921 and 1924 and are modest examples of Beaux-Arts Architecture that were listed in the Glendale Register of Historic Resources in 1977.

Partnering with Abode Communities and Glendale Housing Authority, Harrower Village will include the adaptive reuse of the existing buildings along with the new construction of complementary two-story addition to include thirty-nine units of affordable senior housing. Residential units will be designed with a human-centered approach that considers seniors’ needs to empower residents to age in place. The site will emphasize increased socialization, physical activity, and community connections with an open-air courtyard and garden space, as well as a new pedestrian paseo to maintain a neighborhood, feel and provide a sense of place.

In collaboration with a historic consultant, the adaptive reuse of the laboratory complex will honor the property’s distinction as a City of Glendale Historic Landmark and comply with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation to qualify for federal tax credits. Harrower Village will also seek LEED Silver certification as a part of Abode Communities’ commitment to developing sustainable communities.
