AIA 2030 Commitment

Omgivning is now a signatory of the AIA 2030 Commitment

We are at a critical social and climate tipping point. Long-predicted weather aberrations materialize and intrude into our daily lives, impacting livelihoods, and putting the most vulnerable of us in peril. Our actions over the next decade will determine whether we can avoid catastrophic consequences for our generation and the generations to come.

Since the building and construction industry accounts for 40% of total energy consumption in the United States, architects play a vital role in the effort to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

Omgivning is proud to join the AIA and our peers in the effort to reduce fossil fuel consumption of the built environment and to advance the development of resilient buildings and cities.

The mission of the AIA 2030 Commitment is to support the 2030 Challenge and to transform the practice of architecture in a way that is holistic, firm-wide, project based, and data-driven. It provides a global framework for our profession to rise to the moment and hold ourselves accountable to our values.

It can take up to 80 years for a new, energy-efficient building to overcome the negative climate impact created during construction. With a focus on the adaptive reuse of buildings in the historic core of Los Angeles, we not only preserve the embodied energy and value investment made into the building but also important cultural pieces of a neighborhood or city at large.
